The first in the series of abandoned buildings in and around Northamptonshire UK

These 14th century ruins are the only standing remains of the medieval settlement of Boughton. The village to the southwest was deserted in the late 15th and early 16th century, it was here that the three day fair, granted in 1353 to celebrate the nativity of John the baptist, where woodcrafts and agricultural implements were sold on the first day, festivities and wrestling with horse racing took place on the second and horses and cattle were sold on the third.

The church on this site was first mentioned in 1201 although it may have had earlier origins, it was built upon the sacred spring of St John the Baptist, which issues from just beyond the eastern end behind the chancel. The present building fell out of use in the early 16th century, but the church yard is still in use. ©English Heritage
